This Thursday January 16th we’re welcoming the legendary saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist Mr Tim Ries (USA) to the Cherry stage with the one-off, all-star local Soul supergroup, Soul Serenade.

Tim Ries has played saxophone, keyboards and organ with The Rolling Stones for over 20 years. His musical CV is completely off the hook... The professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Toronto has performed live with Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops and The Temptations. Whilst his performing and recording credits include artists such as Rod Stewart, Paul Simon, Donald Fagen, Stevie Wonder, Blood Sweet and Tear, Lyle Lovett and Michael Jackson.

The said supergroup of Melbourne soul virtuosos, arranged by Yuri Pavlinov exclusively for Tim, includes:

Kylie Auldist (Needs no introduction...) - Lead Vocals

Yuri Pavlinov (The Bamboos, Barbarion...) - Bass (& some new horn arrangements)

Graham Pogson (The Bamboos, GL...) - Drums

Ross Irwin (The Bamboos, The Cat Empire...) - Trumpet

Aaron Mendoza (ex- Electric Empire, Mondo Freaks, Meg Mac & more) - Keybaords and vocals

Trea Hindley - Trombone (Melbourne Opera, Australian Baroque Brass, La Compania...)

Gillan Gregory (Kylie Auldist band, ex-Strange Talk, Killing Heidi, The Chantoozies...) - Guitar

So despite the rumours, it's not all techno in Melbourne. Every Thursday for Soul in the Attic our resident DJ’s spin all things soul, funk, disco and classic 45’s ’til late! Cherry is open at our new location of 68 Little Collins Street. It's probably the best rock n roll joint in town again.
